A Cool Weekend in the High Uintas
This past weekend we camped out Saturday night in the Uintas on the Mirror Lake Highway. The Uintas is a great place to get away from the heat of Salt Lake. At 10,000 feet, you have to break out the puffy jacket in the evening to stay warm.
The plan was to head up Saturday afternoon, go for a hike and then hang out with a bunch of friends around a campfire. We did a great hike on the Notch Peak trail, and finished it with scrambling up a rocky peak (Notch Peak?). We were fortunate enough to be up there during a full moon, but I missed the money shot. The moon came up through the trees and below a few distant clouds that were still pink from the sunset. But we didn’t see the moon until it was about half way behind the clouds, and at that point it was too lake to get the shot. When the moon popped back up, the clouds were no longer illuminated by the sun, but I still got a few good shots.
…and we played around with long exposure and headlamps…
As for Sunday, we went climbing at Ruth Lake. The weather was on and off, but it never stopped us from climbing. I ended up running into my friend Tim and got a few photos of him on a great 5.11.
Enjoy!
The first photo is beautiful!!!
